This is a downtown casino, built by Sam Boyd and still a part of Boyd Gaming. It dates from 1975, so it is around 45 years old. Its signage bears lettering of the 1850s style, when California’s Gold Rush was on. Because Sam Boyd began long ago to advertise directly to Hawaiians, with Hawaiian foods and decor, travel packages and specially-priced charter flights between Las Vegas and Hawaii still are excellent deals today. It is next to the Fremont Experience but not part of it.
The hotel is, however, connected to Main Street Station by a covered walkway. You can see its location on GoogleMaps.
The Sports Book has 18 65-inch TVs for viewing but the big game of the day goes up on one of the two 90-inch big TVs. You can play Keno at the Cal; or visit the casino floor, for games of blackjack, roulette, craps, 3-Card Poker, or Pai Gow Poker. The Cal boasts 995 slot machines.
The hotel has 781 rooms, over half of which have been renovated within the last 3 years. There are two towers.
