The pretty building of The Orleans casino is a tribute to the architecture of the American South — a mixed style like other buildings of Louisiana, long, not tall, a pastel-colored place of leisure. Its lettering is reminiscent of the 1800s steamboat era. It belongs to Boyd Gaming.

It shares a style with the Gold Coast Casino — and the two hotels happen to be linked by a free shuttle service too, which runs from 9am to 12:30am (and the shuttle also goes to the Linq). Both are Boyd properties and are favorites of local gamblers, but Orleans’ size makes it a good spot for many other visitors. Orleans is located west of the Strip. Here it is on Google Maps.

Casino

When the property aims at a local audience, you can look for much better low-limit gambling. And here there are good games to find. For example, there are lots of tables of the favorite Double Deck Blackjack game, with table limits from $10-$1,000. There’s also a couple of single-deck blackjack games at the same limits; these pay 6/5 on Blackjack.

The Roulette tables are double-zero games, i.e. American roulette (which gives a higher edge to the house than single-zero/European wheels). However, there are a couple of IGT video roulette machines, single-zero games with a minimum ten-cent bet, and a video roulette game by Interblock with minimums starting at $3.

The Sport & Race Book has 125 seats, 13 betting windows for pari-mutuel race bettors, and 7 windows for sports betting so there’s less of a wait. The setup of the sports book area is less separated from the rest of the casino than at other casinos; there’s a partial glass wall between it and the casino floor, and full lighting — unlike the dimly-lit, leisurely sportsbooks of other properties. For some this might be better but it may be harder to concentrate on your race or game, even at the individual seat-and-small-screen provided in rows.

The casino has over 2800 slots. These include IGT Wheel of Fortune progressive machines, Megabucks, Quartermania, IGT Elvis; also penny, nickel, half-dollar, dollar, 5-dollar, 25-dollar, and 2 hundred-dollar machines. You can also find 9-line Bingo slots, video keno, and video poker.

Orleans has a large 35-table poker room which is open 24 hours. You can check games, tournament information, and wait lists on the Bravo Poker live app (a free app that can be used for many finding local gaming options, for both iOS and Android). They have 25 large screen TVs for anyone railbirding or waiting a table. They spread games of Texas Hold’em with 1/2 kill, No Limit Hold’em, 7-card stud, 7-card stud hi-lo, and Omaha Hi-Lo with 1/2 kill.

Blackjack Tournaments are run every Saturday and Sunday, and a Fortune Pai Gow Poker progressive game with a jackpot currently over $100,000.

Dining

The hotel offers two upscale steakhouses for fine dining, and a good-sized list of casual eating choices.
The Prime Rib Loft — offers 4 kinds of fine dry-aged prime rib plus seafood, other beef and more. Opens at 5pm.
Alder & Birch — focus is on cocktails and upscale steaks, also has shared dishes.
Big Al’s Oyster Bar — seafood & cajun cuisine
Bailiwick Pub — American pub cuisine
Copper Whisk Cafe — Always open, 24/7
Medley Buffet — 9 food stations; Champagne Brunch on Sat. & Sun. Buffet pricing & details: Medley Buffet
Ondori Kitchen — Chinese, Japanese, sushi food.
TGI Friday’s

Guest Rooms & Amenities

The property is vast in terms of accommodations; there are 1886 rooms & suites. Most of their hotel related services get good reviews online.

Free internet service is included in the Resort Fee, but to get anything faster than 1mbps, you’d need to pay the extra $10 per night per room per device… which is pretty miserable service. Why bother?

If you like to soak, you should take note that even the more basic rooms have a bathtub with shower, while the Executive and Louisiana suites do not; those two have an oversize shower, with a handheld spray. The top accommodations, the New Orleans and Presidential suites, have a Jacuzzi tub in addition to a shower/tub combo.
